International Experience
Teaching English
I have taught Academic English for all levels and all skills (reading, writing, grammar, listening, speaking) in a number of contexts in Florida, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. I very much enjoy bonding with my students and encouraging them in their language learning journey. I have taught students from China, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Perú, France, Sudan, Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Russia. I enjoy teaching them about American culture as I learn about their home cultures.
Host Family
Our family hosted a high school student from Ecuador back in 2002 and then we hosted a student from China from the time she was in 8th grade until she graduated from high school (2016-2021). The students that we have hosted have become important members of our family and we are so thankful for the opportunity to get to know them. I have also hosted international students at our house for special occasions such as Thanksgiving or Christmas. Opportunities to share my culture with others are fun and special times.
Living Overseas
I have had the opportunity to live in a number of different countries including France, Canada, México, Costa Rica, and Paraguay. I have also visited Ecuador, Argentina, and Brazil. Living overseas gives an individual amazing perspectives of the world we share and has allowed me to grow tremendously. I draw from my own experiences living abroad when I work with international students in the U.S.
Language Proficiency
Being a speaker of French, Spanish, and English has opened up opportunities for me to travel, work, study, and meet incredible people. It is my desire to help others become proficient in other languages so that they might also experience all of the amazing things this world has to offer. Having lived in other countries, I have experienced culture shock, identity loss, and frustration, so I can sympathize with others going through the same emotions.
